I was born in the October of 1962. My mother was a hard working farmers wife, who was heavily involved with helping on the farm and not just in the house.
My story started back in the march of 1962, my mother and her mum had been involved in a horrific car accident which left both of them severely injured, Mum was hospitalised for 3 weeks and my nan for longer as she was in a coma.

Bradley Family’s Story
Thomas & Alexander Bradley-Miracles born at 24.4 weeks
After 4 years of trying to conceive we turned to IVF to try and realise our dream of becoming parents. We were so lucky when after just one cycle of IVF we received the news that we were finally pregnant. We were elated, I remember coming home from work and doing a pregnancy test just to make sure! At our first scan, we discovered that we would have an instant family, we were having twins. We were in disbelief but excited all the same. Our dream of being parents was finally coming true.

The Friday before I had been at my mother in laws for dinner and had been sitting on the floor when I noticed that my feet had swollen up to the size of elephants. On to the Sunday morning I woke up with headache so my Mum suggested I go to the GP just to be on the safe side. He said my blood pressure was elevated to 140/90. He said to take it easy and let my obstetrician know in the morning.

Molly-Rose was born on the 5th February 2003 at 26 weeks. Little did we know when we made the big decision to start a family what lay ahead. We started IVF in August 2002, keeping a very positive and open mind as we knew it could possibly be a long road. We took the normal course of drugs and then came the big day, they put two little embryos back and we all prayed hard for a positive result. Continue reading
In February 2004 my partner and I moved from Melbourne over to Wellington, New Zealand. A big step for us but one we were looking forward too. At the end of March I found out I was pregnant with our first child. We were a little shocked but also excited, we knew it would be a challenge given we were in a new country away from all of our family and friends. Little did we know just how hard that challenge was going to be. Continue reading

After numerous IVF cycles we finally received the wonderful news that I was pregnant. I was suffering from fairly brutal morning sickness and a scan at six weeks confirmed the cause – I was carrying twins. Rob and I held our breath for the next six weeks and once we passed that important twelve week milestone we told everyone we had ever known, we were incredibly happy and excited. After about 16 weeks the morning sickness eased and my pregnancy was problem free. Continue reading

Zachary and Elysse Webb entered the world on 2nd March 2003, 14 weeks early, weighing 955 grams and 915 grams. Our twins were conceived after 4 years of fertility treatment, including 8 operations and 149 injections. Words could not describe the excitement we felt when we heard the words, “you’re pregnant.” Continue reading

Ronan
27 Weeks
At 12.50am on the 17th of March, 2006, my husband Mark and I welcomed our very premature son, Ronan into the world at just 27 weeks gestation. This was a day of joy, excitement & celebration but also great concern about the road ahead. My whole pregnancy was trouble free until I reached 26 weeks, when I was diagnosed with a condition called Carpal Tunnel. Continue reading

I never pictured myself having a premature baby. That wasn’t part of the deal: Kaz Cooke doesn’t write an amusing anecdote about it in “Up the Duff”; this happened to other people, not to me. But it did happen to me and this is the story of how a beautiful little boy came into the world. Continue reading

Jack (Matt Tilley Fox FM)
33 Weeks
After having a had a perfectly happy, healthy little girl and then a bit of a struggle with some miscarriages we were absolutely overjoyed to make it to the 12 week let-your-breath-out ultra sound with our boy Jack. In reality, it was where we just took one even deeper breath and held on for the ride of having a baby with Rhesus blood issues. Continue reading

Taj (Tracey Spicer)

“It was as though someone had punched his tiny chest in. A gaping hollow, the size of a man’s hand, sucked back to his spine every time he tried to draw breath. Then, there was the sound. A death rattle. He was just 34 hours old”. Continue reading

Luke
27 weeks
Although it’s been over 7 years, I still remember the events leading to Luke’s birth on 27 Feb 2003.
My pregnancy was going fine, not too different from when I was pregnant with my daughter Maya. I was about 6 months pregnant and had invited a few of my friends around for lunch on Tuesday 25th Feb. Continue reading

Deegan
32 Weeks
I fell pregnant when my son Hunter was 10 months old and had another smooth pregnancy. His due date was the 20th October 2007 but he had other ideas.
It all started on the 25th August 2007. I was 32 weeks and 1 day pregnant. It was a Saturday and I was having a cleaning day as I was having a photographer come and do some pregnancy shots. I did the vacuuming and cleaning (David took Hunter out for the day). I went down the street to get bread and milk and bumped in a friend and he mentioned I didn’t look too good (gee, thanks). I turned around and jokingly said – I’m probably in labour (little did I know…) Continue reading

William
25 Weeks
I was 20 weeks pregnant when my husband commented on what an easy time I was having. By 22 weeks, I was dilated to 3cm and the membranes were coming out. We thought we were going to lose our baby.
I was rushed to emergency surgery where the membranes were pushed back in and my cervix was stitched up. Our baby was not expected to survive the operation. He did, but we were now concerned about a possible infection and so as a precaution, I was hospitalized for the remainder of the pregnancy with complete bed rest, only getting up for the shower and toilet. I was to stay at Cabrini Hospital until I was 24 weeks pregnant and then be transferred to Monash Hospital. Continue reading

Elora
24 Weeks
My daughter was born at 24 weeks old, arriving unexpectedly 4 months ahead of schedule. She was born by emergency caesarean and weighed a tiny 319 grams. Elora spent the first seven months of her life in the Royal Womens Hospital (Melbourne) – the first 5 of these in a critical condition in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The time Elora was in hospital was an enormous emotional and physical rollercoaster ride. During her first seven months, Elora suffered what I now know to be some of the ‘usual complications that come with being a premature baby’. Continue reading

Tahlia
25 Weeks
Talia was born on 1st May 2009 at 25 weeks and 6 days, weighing at just 683 grams, she was due to be born on 8th August 2009. Little did we know that when we were going to start a family what a long journey we were facing. I always knew from teenage years that I was never going to have children the easy way, IVF was the way my husband and I had to go. We started the process in 2006 whilst living Adelaide however we had to cease the process as we moved to Melbourne in 2007. Once we settled in we recommenced IVF in 2008 and after 3 tries we were pregnant. Continue reading

A Little Treasure
29 Weeks
We were surprised, nervous & excited to find out we were pregnant. The Dr sent us for a scan even though she thought we were only about 8 weeks. How exciting! We were going to see our baby for the first time!! It wasn’t long into the scan when I saw two little circles on the screen. “Odd”, I thought to myself, “I didn’t picture it would look like that”.. Then came the words that took us by complete surprise and began the journey of our lives.. “They are both looking well”. Continue reading

Hunter

Well you’d say I had a perfect pregnancy, I fell pregnant straight away, didn’t have much morning sickness (lucky me). Everything else was textbook stuff, although we were worried about congenital heart problems as there is a strong family history. So everything was going along like clockwork but I was still in the High Risk Group at The Royal Women’s Hospital in Carlton but that was because of my history etc. Continue reading

Jasmine

All had been going great with my fourth pregnancy, until the 19 week ultrasound. It showed that I’d had a bleed into the sac, but they really werent concerned, I’d had a brief sharp pain low on the side of my belly around a week prior which actually stopped me in my tracks and doubled me over, but the midwives told me it was just round ligament pain, still, an appointment was made for me to go to fetal diagnostics at 23 weeks. A few days later I had a small dark discharge, I was examined at hospital and after MANY hours I was given the ok and sent home. The following morning I woke up bleeding, it wasn’t a huge amount, but it was bright and continuous. Continue reading
